这篇文章还是开门见山的好。
“和谐的翻译”的意思有些模糊，这个题目的确有些差劲。不是说翻译有多么和谐，也不是对翻译学“和谐说”的含沙射影。简单地说，和谐的翻译就是讲怎么翻译“和谐”这个词。
大家认同的翻译是harmony（名词）、harmonious（形容词）、harmonize（动词）。比如说，“构建和谐社会”就是to construct a harmonious society，“和谐”是形容词；“构建和谐”是to construct harmony，“和谐”是名词。
今天听大学同学说，有人这样解释“和谐”，和，就是人人有饭吃，谐，就是大家都能说话。那么，“构建和谐社会”的任务比较好理解了，to construct a harmonious society where you have enough to eat and you don’t hesitate to express yourself，当然，这也是民主社会的特征。
这件事，还是要说得再枯燥些。
商务97年版《辞源》第273页“和谐”词条：协调。左传 襄十一年：“八年之中，九合诸侯，如乐之和，无所不谐。”晋书 摯虞传：“施之金石，则音韵和谐。”后汉书四十九仲长统传 昌言 法诫：“夫任一人则政专，任数人则相倚，政专则和谐，相倚则违戾。”此指行动连贯一致。
《后汉书》的这句话，说得意味深长。凡事，一个人说了算，最好，最和谐，能善始善终。这个“和谐”就有constantly的意思。
如果“和谐”与harmony对译，似乎完全合适。Harmony的意思是：①Agreement in feeling or opinion; accord; ②A pleasing combination of elements in a whole; ③A combination of sounds considered pleasing to the ear。
也许，对下面的说法，您有共鸣。
网上流行“和谐”的动词用法：比如，你写的东西突然不见了，或者根本无法上传，网友们通常说，“被和谐掉了”，显然，用to harmonize或to be harmonized根本不能表达你的想法。Harmonize的意思是to bring or come into agreement or harmony; to provide harmony (for a melody)。因为你的文章删掉后，并不等于你同意了别人的说法和作法。
我想到一词，但又没幽默感了，to prune 或 to be pruned，这个词也还算有趣，有两个含义，一是用于树木，“修剪”义，To cut off or remove dead or living parts or branches of (a plant, for example) to improve shape or growth；另一个是“削减”义，To remove or cut out as superfluous; to reduce。
但究竟怎样译，既准确又不失幽默感呢？
